Greetings friends of freeflow! Oliver here, new writer amongst the freeflow creatives.

Last October, to my great surprise, I was accepted into freeflow’s creative team. With no prior experience in commercial filmmaking, I was, naturally, both grateful and nervous upon hearing the news. It was an ambitious role for me, but I also felt terribly out of my depth.

Thankfully, as a lifelong film geek, I’ve always loved everything to do with cinema – from industry pop culture, awards seasons, actors and directors to genre trends, film music and theory. I could put the name of a film to a famous quote before the quote was completed.

Through film, I learnt about the world and about people, expanded my vocabulary, had my visual senses stimulated and saw the lives of hundreds of different characters. In no small way, cinema shaped who I am today.

Since this realization, it has been my end goal to give back to this passion; I’ve worked on award-winning short films, written a dissertation using film analysis, and dabbled in film critique and content writing. Yet, these paths never felt like they were leading towards major fulfilment. That is, until last October.

Joining freeflow, I feel like I’ve finally taken a big step towards my dream: to be a part of the film industry. Here, I am able to use my passion as inspiration, and my skill as a profession. And that is something I’m truly grateful for.

To date, freeflow has been the perfect place to work towards this aspiration: learning from directors and producers, being on sets and locations for big productions, writing treatments and scripts, pitching concepts to clients and selling ideas. I couldn’t think of a better environment to grow in.

My story is one of a passion that grew to become a dream. I only hope my performance lives up to the script.
